This course is designed for artists and interactive programmers interested in using mobile technology as a tool or means for artistic expression. A familiarity with Max/MSP/Jitter is required. Knowledge of PHP/MySQL would be helpful but not necessary. Students will be provided with the sample code they need to implement their own projects having to understand low-level code. The focus of this course will be appropriating available cell phone technology for the needs of interactive performance and installation. Topics: SMS, MMS, ringtones, VXML, serial interfaces, bluetooth. Interfacing cell phones with external databases. Interfacing Max/MSP/Jitter with mobile devices. PHP/MySQL interfaces. Bluetooth modem, AT Commands.
